Hawthorn Center Theater
After several months of research, development and hard work, the Carol Ambrose Theater at Hawthorn Center opened for the children of Hawthorn in October, 2007. Hawthorn Center Association Board members first researched the copyright laws, and subsequently purchased a site license, allowing viewing of movies from all but one movie studio. From there, we contracted to purchase and install video and audio equipment, including the installation of a 55"x77" movie screen. The Maintenance and Housekeeping Departments were instrumental in cleaning, painting, and sprucing up the room. For the theater to be even more authentic, a seating from Grand Rapids, MI, installed 69 theater seats, originally from the Indiana Pacers Stadium. For special effects, one of our talented nurses, Sally, along with her sister, painted decorations on the theater walls for all to enjoy. HCA opened a Netflix account, and with the suggestions from the Nursing Department, order current movies on a weekly basis for the children. In addition, the theater is also used for staff education and training. The development of this theater was made possible through HCA memberships, donations, and fundraising efforts by the Association. Without the continued support Hawthorn Center staff and friends, this project would not have been realized. Lastly, the theater was dedicated to the memory of our fellow HCA Board member, friend and colleague, Carol Ambrose, who passed away in August, 2006. Her love of the performing arts
is a reminder to all us to live, learn and enjoy.
