History of Hawthorn Center Association
- Present and past Hawthorn Center employees founded Hawthorn Center Association in 1976.
- The goal of the association is to support, encourage, and finance those projects leading to improved comprehensive mental health services for children and their families.
- In addition, Hawthorn Center Association has provided special events for the children of Hawthorn Center. These have included an annual magic show, a Wildlife Safari animal show, summer courtyard concerts with live music and/or a DJ, comedy/inspirational speakers, and an annual dress-up dinner-dance.
- Furthermore, Hawthorn Center Association provides scholarships for previous patients of Hawthorn Center who are seeking post-high school education and training.
- Hawthorn Center Association provides continuing educational programs for mental health professions as well. Past conference presenters have included Lenore Terr, M.D.; Judith Wallerstein, Ph.D.; Lenore Bender, M.D.; John Bowlby, M.D.; Susan Sgroi, M.D.; and Neil Bernstein, Ph.D.
